Starry Partners with HACLA To Bring Broadband to Communities Who Need It The Most
Jun 24th, 2020
The internet is the bridge to economic opportunity, education, health care and so much more. And, at Starry, we believe that everyone deserves affordable internet access.
That’s why we are continuing to expand our ultra low-cost Starry Connect program through a new partnership with the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA). The partnership will provide a new, affordable broadband option to more than 600 households in Los Angeles’ Mar Vista Gardens community. This is the first time in the history of this community that residents will have a choice in broadband providers
"At Starry, our goal is to break the broadband monopoly, using our technology to provide a high-quality, affordable broadband experience that helps move communities forward – not hold them back," said our co-founder and CEO Chet Kanojia.
To kick off the partnership, we hosted a community event for Mar Vista Gardens residents and families, complete with ice cream and a DJ. The event allowed residents to enjoy one of our first summer weekends, socially distancing outside, while learning more about our high-quality, uncapped, true broadband plan for only $15 per month.
"I like Starry because it is a new company with faster internet that is saving me over $65 a month," said Mar Vista Gardens resident and Starry subscriber Guadalupe Ruiz. "The Starry installer was super knowledgeable and I really liked the personal involvement in setting up my internet service.”
As communities like Mar Vista Gardens continue to feel the impacts of the COVID- 19 health crisis, Starry has also extended our commitment to the FCC’s "Keep Americans Connected" pledge through July 31st. We will continue to voluntarily agree not to discontinue service to any subscriber due to nonpayment related to the ongoing health crisis. In addition, Starry is providing free service to all its Starry Connect subscribers, including those within the Mar Vista Gardens Community community, until the end of July 2020.
